Mercer Residence . extensive renovation
This complete renovation of the Mercer home was built on the strong bones of a 1954 architect-designed residence in Raleigh’s Hayes Barton section. Renovations opened the house up to the site and daylight, and introduced new systems and finishes.
Reconfiguration of interior spaces with contemporary materials and systems, created a new and spacious living room, kitchen, bathrooms, master bedroom and excercise room.
The new kitchen is doubled from the original and includes a large island with seating area and wine storage. Mahogany, travertine, honed granite, stainless steel and mosaic tile add to the rich palate of materials.
A new master bathroom features a sandblasted glass block wall that brings early morning light into the space.
Glass block also provides light and privacy for the full-scale excercise room, formerly a carport.
